India’s corporate landscape is thriving, with CEOs at the helm of its most prominent companies leading the charge. These leaders guide their organizations to new heights and earn substantial compensation for their expertise and vision. Some of these top-tier professionals have roots deeply embedded in Indian soil, while others extend their influence globally. In FY23, approximately 1,320 CEOs in India earned salaries exceeding Rs 1 crore. Here, we spotlight the ten highest-paid CEOs in India, whose leadership and strategic insights have garnered them top earnings.

1.     Ravi Kumar Singisetti

Ravi Kumar Singisetti took the reins of Cognizant on January 12, 2023, succeeding Brian Humphries. He tops the list with a staggering Rs 186 crore in compensation last year, as reported by India Today. According to company filings, the bulk of his earnings, around Rs 169.1 crore, came in the form of shares.

2.     Thierry Delaporte

Thierry Delaporte, who recently stepped down as Wipro’s CEO, earned Rs 82 crore in FY23, making him the second-highest-paid CEO in India, according to News18. Srinivas Pallia has since succeeded him as CEO and Managing Director as of April 7.

3.     Sandeep Kalra

As CEO and Executive Director of Persistent Systems, Sandeep Kalra earned Rs 61.7 crore last financial year, a 31% increase from the Rs 46.9 crore he earned in FY22, reports LiveMint. Kalra joined Persistent Systems in 2019 and became CEO in 2020.

4.     Nitin Rakesh

Nitin Rakesh, CEO and Director of Mphasis, earned Rs 59.2 crore in FY23, according to CNBC. He has been leading Mphasis since 2017, driving its growth in the competitive IT services and consulting sector.

5.     Salil Parekh

Infosys CEO Salil Parekh earned Rs 56 crore last year, with a significant portion of his income, approximately Rs 30.6 crore, from exercising his Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). Despite this substantial income, it was a decrease from the Rs 71 crore he earned in FY22, as reported by Moneycontrol.

6.     Sudhir Singh

Sudhir Singh, CEO and Executive Director of Coforge, earned Rs 34 crore in FY23, according to News18. He has led Coforge, an IT services firm with headquarters in Noida and New Jersey, since January 2020.

7.     CP Gurnani

Former Tech Mahindra CEO and Managing Director, CP Gurnani, earned Rs 32 crore last year before stepping down in December 2023, after nearly two decades with the company, reports the Economic Times.

8.     Rajesh Gopinathan

Rajesh Gopinathan, the former CEO and Managing Director of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), earned Rs 29.61 crore in FY23. Of this, his salary was Rs 1.73 crore, with additional benefits and allowances amounting to Rs 2.43 crore, according to the Economic Times. Gopinathan resigned as CEO in 2023.

9.     C Vijayakumar

HCL Tech CEO and Managing Director, C Vijayakumar, earned Rs 28.4 crore in FY23. He has been with HCL since 2016, guiding the company to new technological advancements, reports the Economic Times.

10.   Sanjeev Mehta

Sanjeev Mehta, CEO of Hindustan Unilever, earned Rs 22.36 crore in FY23, a slight increase from Rs 22.07 crore the previous year, according to the Financial Express. He has been leading the consumer goods giant since October 2013.
