AXIS VALUE FUND LEADS VALUE MUTUAL FUNDS IN ONE-MONTH RETURNS; DELIVERS 4.0% GAIN

The one-month return chart for the value mutual fund category is led by Axis Value Fund, which delivered 4.0 percent. HDFC Value Fund and Aditya Birla SL Value Fund occupy the next two positions with returns of 2.4 percent and 1.6 percent, respectively, according to ACE MF data on August 12.

The ranking considers only schemes with assets under management of at least Rs 1,500 crore. Among the top five funds that meet this criterion, HSBC Value Fund has the largest corpus at Rs 14,987.5 crore.

The benchmark comparison is also important. Axis Value Fund was ahead of its benchmark by 2.8 percentage points on a one-month basis, with the benchmark returning 1.2%. It was also ahead of its benchmark by 11.8 percentage points on a one-year basis, with the benchmark returning 0.9%.

The leadership shifts in the six-month comparison, where Aditya Birla SL Value Fund tops the list with 7.0 percent.

The leadership shifts in the one-year comparison, where Aditya Birla SL Value Fund tops the list with 15.1 percent.

The same scheme also stays ahead on the three-year return chart. Axis Value Fund delivered 18.6 percent over this period.

The variation across return windows shows why rankings can look different depending on the period being considered. A short-term leader may not always be the same as the fund that has done well over a longer horizon.

What is a value fund?

Funds in the value fund category should be assessed against schemes with similar investment mandates. Return comparisons across unrelated categories may not be meaningful because risk, asset allocation and portfolio strategy can differ sharply.
