Among gold fund-of-funds mutual funds that meet the screen used for this ranking, SBI Gold is at the top on six-month returns. The fund delivered 5.0 percent, ahead of Kotak Gold Fund at 5.0 percent and ICICI Pru Gold ETF FOF at 4.9 percent, according to ACE MF data on July 7.
The ranking considers only schemes with assets under management of at least Rs 1,500 crore. Among the top five funds that meet this criterion, SBI Gold has the largest corpus at Rs 16,532.9 crore.
The benchmark comparison is also important. SBI Gold was ahead of its benchmark by 42.6 percentage points on a one-year basis, with the benchmark returning 4.4%. It was also ahead of its benchmark by 16.3 percentage points on a three-year basis, with the benchmark returning 16.8%.
The leadership shifts in the one-month comparison, where Kotak Gold Fund tops the list with -7.0 percent.
The three-month ranking gives a different reading. HDFC Gold ETF FoF is ahead on this measure with a return of -2.7 percent.
The lead does not change on a three-year basis either. SBI Gold also tops this comparison with a return of 33.2 percent.
Looking at more than one return period gives investors a fuller picture. The top performer in a recent window may differ from the fund that has delivered stronger longer-term returns.
